Virtual Government Technology Center (VGTC)
Desktop management is costly for any IT department and it is particularly true
for ADOA. Within ADOA there are multiple work groups and types of employees who
each need their own sets of applications and tools readily available on their
desktops. To keep everyone productive, ADOA must manage multiple complicated
desktop images and provide the necessary availability and support. Desktop
virtualization can provide ADOA with efficient control for a centralized desktop
infrastructure. It matches the right applications and tools with the users who
need them—while keeping hardware fully utilized.
The Virtual Desktop Infrastructure solution will begin with a kickoff meeting
and a proof-of-concept vision and scope meeting to ensure that all information
necessary for a successful engagement is available “Anytime, Anywhere government
services”.
The vision is to design a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure solution which
will maximize the value of a virtual desktop infrastructure through increased
availability, increased flexibility, and simplified maintenance.
The scope of this multi-phased project is to develop and deploy the
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure solution for the Arizona Department of
Administration (ADOA) in partnership with Intel, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft, Citrix, etc.
The goal of this phase of the project is to develop a first-class,
shared-use Virtual Government Technology Center by partnering with industry
leaders, and educational institutions. This partnership with Citrix, HP,
Microsoft, Dell, IBM, Cisco, Intel, Qwest,
Lenovo, Verision, AZNet, Avaya, Blackberry,
Arizona State University, and ADOA will lead to development of new and better
Government processes and services.
This phase of this project is to develop a first class Virtual Government
Technology Center (VGTC) which will be located at 100 N. 15th Avenue, Suite 400,
Phoenix, Arizona 85007.
- Our partners will provide desktop virtualization hardware and software for
approximately 20-30 workstations including servers and switches.
- Our partners will provide architecture, design, deployment, and migration
guidance detailing the proposed virtualization solution.
- ADOA will provide rack space, wiring and power for the servers and switches. The
servers will be located at the ADOA Data Center, 1510 W. Adam, 3rd floor.
- ADOA Desktop Virtualization Team will assist with development and deployment.
- AZNet in partnership with ADOA Team and partners will deliver IPT solution.
AZNet will provide 12-24 “Restricted” seats for the VGTC
- AZNet and their partners will provide loaner HW, SW and any applicable equipment
at no cost for this POC.
