ADOA Data Center Goes Green
ADOA/ISD has taken the initiative to create a more efficient and environmentally
friendly State Data Center.
“As we continue to bring in other governmental entities, we must continue to
build a Green Data Center. It follows our CIO’s (Patrick Quain) vision and our
ITIL (Best Practices) initiative to become a more efficient and effective State
Government.”, said ADOA Data Center Manager Karl Eberhardt.
Green IT “Best Practices” include:
- Implementation of server and storage virtualization and consolidation to reduce
the number of physical devices.
- Procuring both data and facility equipment that meet Energy Star specifications.
- Re-aligning equipment to maximize cooling utilization.
- Replacing light switches with motion sensors to reduce electrical usage.
- Recycling printer/toner cartridges, paper waste and other products when no
longer needed.
- Adhering to federal and state Hazardous and Universal Waste Regulations for the
disposal of technologies that are hazardous and toxic in nature.
